Tonto Dikeh was born on June 9, 1985. She is of the Ikwerre tribe in Rivers state and from a family of seven. She bagged a Bsc. in Petrochemical Engineering from Rivers State University of Technology, Port Harcourt. Although she lost her mother at the age of three, growing up was wonderful for her because her father was financially okay and did everything possible for her. The only thing she didn’t appreciate while she was growing up was the fact that she could not mix with her peer group, which is why she can’t speak her dialect.
In 2005, she competed in a reality TV show called ‘The Next Movie Star’. She got into the reality show because she saw it as a way of getting close to the industry. She was the first runner – up, while Kingsley Ogboso won. From there, she started looking for contracts and fortunately for her, a lot of people saw her talent during the reality show.
In January 2011, Dikeh took part in a charity fashion show in Lagos with Banky W, Omotola Jolade, Ekeinde, among others. Tonto was known in Nollywood as a chain smoker and had started smoking since the age of 14 but recently testified that she stopped smoking after prayers with Pastor T.B. Joshua via his Christian station, Emmanuel TV.
After acting in numerous movies, Dikeh tried her hand at music although she had once featured in a music video where she and Patience Ozokwo mimed the song. She made her debut by releasing singles ‘Hi’ and ‘Itz Ova’ feat Snypa. While many lauded her effort, the songs were trailed by controversy as critics especially questioned her vocal ability. She released other singles like ‘Crazically fit’, ‘Jeje’. On June 13th, 2014, pop star D’bang, unveiled Dikeh as an artiste with his record label DB records’ LEE family. She also launched a foundation for abused women and kids in 2014. She won best actress of the year 2014 at ELOY awards and more other nominations.
Tonto Dikeh once announced she was dating a millionaire, Michael Awoloja in 2014 but they were later said to have broken up and started dating Mr. X, an anonymous man whom she failed to reveal until 2015. In August 2015, she traditionally married Oladunni Churchill and by February 2016, she welcomed her first child, Andre Omodayo Churchill. She has since separated from her husband, which was made public by her early February 2017. It cannot be categorically ascertained the reason for separation as only Dikeh seemed to have hurled allegations of domestic abuse, infidelity and lies. Her estranged husband expressed hope in possible reconciliation with the beautiful actress.
