The Association of Faculty of Arts Students football team started their Inter-Faculty football competition on a good note with a hard earned 2-1 victory over defending champion of the competition, the scientists from the Faculty of Science.

The match was played at Awo Stadium on the 25th of April. The first half of the keenly contested fixture was dominated by the Faculty of Arts team that paraded players like Chima, Black Majeed, and Ebute Abraham. The dominance was proven when Ebute Abraham from the department of Classics put the Afasites ahead thirteen minutes into the game. For five minutes after the goal, the defending champion tried getting back into the game but the defence of Faculty of Arts was too good to contain them. And for the remainder of the first half, it was an all Afasites show with Abraham and Chima taking the game to the scientists.

For most part of the second half, the Afasites have the table turned on them as the defending champion dominated the game. They missed a couple of chances before they finally level things up in the 75th minute through a well taken free kick. Chima of the department of Philosophy responded quickly in the 78th minute with a sublime goal to restore Faculty of Arts lead and to secure a victory that will boost their confidence going into the second game on the 5th of May. This victory means that the Faculty of Arts team now have 3 points.

Notable members of the Faculty in attendance to cheer the team into victory include the Sub Dean, Dr Adams Akewula, and some AFAS excos such as the General Secretary, Mr Ojo Akinwale, Sports Director, Bamisaye Feranmi, and Assistant General Secretary, Daniel Anagboso. Immediate past Sports Director of the Faculty, Alli Rabiat and immediate past Public Relations Officer, Akabueze Chidiebere were also on hand to see the game and to lend their support to the players. A couple of other enthusiastic and sport-loving Afasites are also on hand to cheer the players into victory.

In all, it was a well-deserved victory and we only hope that the team will consolidate on this and win their subsequent matches to book.
